Beginning Knitting

Cost: $50 plus supplies (class supplies qualify for a 10% discount)
Supplies: Worsted weight wool yarn in a light color (we recommend Galway Worsted) and size 8 bamboo needles (we recommend KA bamboo straight needles). You’ll also need a darning needle for the second class.
Optional: A beginning knitting book such as the TNNA Learn to Knit pamphlet, Stitch’n’Bitch, or Teach Yourself Visually Knitting
Prerequisites: None!

Time: Three sessions.

Learn the basics and get yourself knitting! In this class you will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. You’ll also learn how to combine knitting and purling to create different stitch patterns and textures, common knitting terms, and the basics of reading a pattern.

Intermediate Knitting

Cost: $50 plus supplies (class supplies qualify for a 10% discount)
Supplies: Worsted weight yarn in a light color,
  size 8 needles - straight, 16"-long circulars, 36"-long circulars, and double-points

Optional: A beginning knitting book such as the TNNA Learn to Knit pamphlet, Stitch’n’Bitch, or Teach Yourself Visually Knitting – all available at Yarnivore

In this class you will learn to increase and decrease, to knit in the round, to read a knitting pattern, and some fun new stitch patterns. FREE patterns are included for a hat, a baby blanket, felted coasters and more. By the end of class you will have a finished hat, knit seamlessly in the round!

Knockout Knits & Perfect Purls

Cost: $35 plus supplies (class supplies qualify for a 10% discount)
Supplies: Worsted weight basic yarn in a light color (wool or wool blends are best, but any yarn will do), straight or circular needles in sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 (yup, bring all of them
Prerequisites: You should already know how to do basic knitting

Do you have gaps in between rows? Uneven stitches? Too tight or too loose edges? We can fix all that! In this class, we’ll hone your knitting and purling skills to give you beautiful, even stitches, beautiful edges, and pretty purls. Make your knitting look HANDMADE, not homemade!


Swatches Needed
  Swatch 1:
Cast on 30 stitches, knit every row for 60 rows, bind off in knit.

  Swatch 2: Cast on 30 stitches, PURL every row for 60 rows, bind off in purl.
  Swatch 3: Cast on 26 stitches, work 6 rows of garter stitch, then work as follows: Purl row – k 3, p to last 3 sts, end k 3; Knit row – knit across. Repeat those two rows 16 more times. Work 6 more rows of garter stitch, then bind off.

Continental Knitting

Supplies: size 7 or 8 straight or circular needles, Cascade 220, Galway Worsted, or other basic worsted wool yarn.

If you want to make anything of a predictable size, you HAVE to get gauge. We’ll learn the right way to make a gauge swatch, methods to ensure that your gauge swatch gives you reliable results, and the difference between row gauge and stitch gauge. This is ESSENTIAL for anyone who wants to improve their knitting skills.

Fixing Mistakes

Field of Seams

Supplies: Please make 4 swatches, two of stockinette stitch, and two garter stitch before the first class. Swatches can be with any (non-novelty) yarn, but light colors are better and they should be at least 4″ square.
Prerequisites: Suitable for knitters of most skill levels.

Learn the secrets to perfect finishing – nearly invisible seams, picking up the perfect number of neckline stitches (without counting!) and much, much more. Weaving in Ends Invisibly

Supplies: Make and bring 3 swatches in any yarn, one garter, and one only stockinette (should curl at edges), and one seed stitch; also bring a darning needle of appropriate size for your swatches.

Gettin' Handsy: Knitting Custom Gloves

My First Socks: Knit Basic Socks from the Cuff Down

Toe-Up Socks: Knit and Fit the Foot First!

Supplies: 100 grams (3.5 ounces) worsted weight superwash yarn and a 36- or 40-inch long size 5 circular needle. Optional: a set of locking stitch markers.

Learn to make socks from the toes up, so you always have enough yarn to cover your feet! This worsted weight sock is thick and warm, perfect for wearing around the house, or as a boot sock. Footie Socks!

Supplies: 50 grams of sock-weight or dk-weight yarn, double-pointed or long circular knitting needles 1 size smaller than the yarn calls for, locking stitch markers, measuring tape

This is a perfect project for leftovers of sock yarn! - as long as you have at least 50 grams total, you can even do the foot and the edging in different colors.

Learn to knit two socks at a time on one long circular needle. We'll start at the toe, do a short-row heel with NO WRAPS, and end with an elegant hemmed cuff.

Two-at-a-Time Cuff Down Socks

Supplies: Your favorite SOCK yarn, fingering or DK weight, preferably a light to medium color, size 1 or 2 circular needle, 40 inches long or longer (or whatever size will get you a gauge of about 7 stitches per inch), stitch markers, darning needle, tape measure.
Prerequisites: This class is for those who HAVE knit socks before and are already familiar with the KFB increase and the SSK or S1-K1-PSSO decreases. If you’re not sure, come in the store and we’ll give you a quick skills-check.

Seamless Argyle Socks

Supplies: Fingering weight sock yarn in three solid colors (you only need a small amount of the third color), Sock needles – circulars or double-points in a size 0, 1, or 2, whatever size will get you 7 stitches per inch.
Prerequisites: For experienced knitters looking for a bit of a challenge

Argyle socks are total classics, and for good reason – they’re gorgeous! But they’re also sometimes uncomfortable, because they’re usually seamed. Ick. But in this class, you’ll learn to work intarsia in the round, so that you end up with beautiful AND comfortable classic-looking argyle socks!

Find Your Favorite Heel

(Not Your) Grandma's Slippers

Supplies: Bulky yarn in a light color (we recommend Encore Chunky or Cascade 128) and size 10 circular needles in a 36″ or 40″ length, darning needle, stitch markers, Small pom-pom maker set OR 1″ wide piece of wood or stiff cardboard.
Prerequisites: Basic Knitting - Great for New Knitters!

Do you remember these slippers from back in the day? I think everyone’s Grandma made them. The old-fashioned version is garter stitch and ribbing knitted flat, then sewn up with seams at the back of the heel and the top of the foot. Wendy’s new and improved version is just as quick and almost as easy, but done with NO SEAMS so that the foot stays happy and comfortable for an entire day of hanging out in your pajamas. You can even wear them to bed for soft fluffy bed socks.

Supplies: One 100 g ball of Worsted or Bulky yarn (preferably wool or wool blend), 16″ circular needles and double-pointed needles in the size the yarn calls for, stitch markers, darning needle, scissors

Get the look of Intarsia without the mess! No bobbins, no need for dozens of strands of yarn! Just awesome patterning and double-layered fabric.

You'll learn to make a reversible scarf (or potholder, if scarves aren't your thing) with a tapestry-type design that will appear with reversed colors on the other side. You’ll also learn an “invisible” cast-on and bind off!
