Schooooooool's Out For SUMMER!
<— Kumihimo
This Japanese craft uses yarn, thread, or embroidery floss and a board with numbered slots to make decorative cords that can be used for friendship bracelets, belts, necklaces! You can even add beads!
Needle Felting —>
Make flat pieces or 3 dimensional toys or decor just by poking wool with sharp needles! This one is only for older kids, but it can make some pretty cool (note: the needles are SHARP and adult supervision is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)
<— Pom-Pom making
Basic pom-poms are so fun and easy to make! And for the really creative kids, you can find tutorials on how to turn your pom-poms into 3-D toys and animals!
Knitting Looms —>
Loom knitting is a great introduction to the knitting world. The simplest knitting looms are the 4-pronged cord-looms (often called spool knitters or knitting dollies). There are also looms to make double-knit scarves, hats, baby things, and even socks!
<— Flower Loom
This little loom makes flowers of different shapes - round, square, or hexagonal. Use up leftover yarn, or use ribbon or strips of fabric for a cool look. You can stack the flowers together for fancy blossoms, and even sew them together to make scarves, hats, or home decor. They even make great homecoming mums!

Featured Yarn and Pattern
Plymouth Yarns' Pendenza is a silky smooth yarn made of 100% Egyptian cotton (that's the good stuff!). It has undulating color changes that really catch the eye. One great technique to highlight the beauty of this kind of yarn is to do slipped stitch quilt-style knitting. The One Ball Cowl by Vanessa Ewing fits the bill perfectly! It shows off the color, sheen, and drape of this beautiful yarn with ease!

Who sets the standards for yarn weights and pattern sizes? Well, here in the US, the Craft Yarn Council sets the standards for all sorts of things, including yarn weights, standard pattern sizes, and more. Yarn companies and designers aren't required to abide by the standards set by the CYC, but most major yarn mills and publishers do use the CYC standards.
