Size Inclusivity

Everyone deserves well-fitting sweaters!

If you are an internet-savvy knitter/crocheter, you may have already seen the discussions on size-inclusivity on Ravelry and Instagram! What is size-inclusivity? It's designing patterns to fit a large range of sizes, so that plus size and extra-petite crafters aren't left out of garment construction. Generally, inclusive patterns will fit a bust/chest measurement from 30" to 60" and some strive to go from 28" to 72".

Often sweater patterns only include sizes up to a 42" bust/chest, which in most stores is about a size 12/14 - the average size of an American woman. This means half of all women are bigger than this! Many also leave out the very smallest sizes, starting at a 32 bust.

Size inclusivity includes more than just sweaters, too. Shawls, hats, gloves - these are often made as "one size" patterns, but shoulders, necks, hands, and heads all come in different sizes, too.

We agree that everyone deserves a sweater that fits, no matter what their size or shape. All of our classes are size inclusive, and our teachers can help you resize any pattern to fit. We will make an effort in 2020 to feature size-inclusive patterns as often as we can!

The Tip Jar

Do you have a rough spot on your needle or hook? Here are some fixes using nail care tools:

For wooden or bamboo needles or hooks: use a fine emery board to sand off the rough spot, then polish it with a nail buffer before rewaxing the needle/hook.

For metal needles or hooks: a bad snag needs to be fixed using proper metal-working tools, but you can smooth a rough spot with a dab of quick dry top coat.
