Show Your Pride!
Want to make something for Pride month??

Many of us have people we love who are part of the LGBTQIA+ (LGBT) community, and some of our Yarnivore staff are part of the community, too. Pride month (June) is often symbolized by the rainbow flag. The most common rainbow flag is comprised of 6 colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), with each having a particular meaning. There are many variations on the pride flag, too, and we've shown those color combinations below. Each of the colors stands for something, such as red/life, orange/healing, yellow/sunlight, green/nature, blue/serenity, and purple/spirit. We love this symbolism!

If you want to make something for a loved one or yourself, you can take any basic scarf, blanket, hat, etc, pattern and turn it into a pride design just by choosing the right colors! To get you started, here are our picks for Pride Color Schemes using Plymouth Encore (our favorite basic worsted-weight blanket yarn):

OG Pride Rainbow Flag
1386 Christmas Red, 1383 Bright Orange, 1382 Bright Yellow, 0054 Christmas Green, 0133 Royal, 1606 Purple Bell

These are not the ONLY identities covered under the LGBTQIA+ banner (pun totally intended); if you need help with colors for a loved one we didn't cover, or in a different yarn, we are MORE than happy to help you with that!

Be safe, be well, be kind!

Rainbow Socks, anyone?

Uneek Yarns has an easy way to do your own rainbow sock, whether you want it for Pride, or just because rainbows are pretty! Uneek Sock has a  kit in which the yarn is pre-split to make a pair of socks that will be identical twins! The Rainbow one is the "Harmony" colorway. All you need is a basic sock pattern, like fellow-Texan Vickie Howell's Basic Sock Recipe - FREE on Vickie's website!

Don't care if they're identical? For easy Fraternal Twin rainbow socks (or if you want to do a rainbow-y fingering weight non-sock project, we suggest, Urth Uneek Fingering in the Harmony Colorway. We also have Urth Uneek Worsted in this colorway, too! It's perfect for hats, tops or other garments.

Private Lessons
In-store and online private lessons are available! Please call us at 210-979-8255 to schedule a lesson! Wendy, Dawn, Moses, and Nancy M. are all available to help you with your projects! Private Lessons can be scheduled outside of regular hours at the discretion of the teacher.

The Tip Jar

If you're making socks or gloves or for any other reason find yourself knitting or crocheting from both the inside and outside of the same ball, you can prevent tangles by putting a sleeve (aka Yarn Bra) over the ball and then pulling the two yarns from opposite sides of the sleeve. This keeps the two strands separated so they don't twist together quite so much. You can buy a yarn bra (aka Yarn Cozy) or make one yourself by using a spare sock, footy or knee high nylons. We have some Slipped Stitch Studio Yarn Socks on the way that we can't wait to share!

All regular classes are currently on hold until we can safely seat up to 6 students in the classroom. We'll let y'all know when we can offer them again. Until then, we're offering most of our class material in private lessons.
