Assignment: FUN!
Jump In On the Pooling Trend!
Have you heard of Assigned Pooling?
Pooling is an interesting effect of multicolored or textured yarns. It happens when one color or texture lines up on successive rows, creating a "pool" of that color or texture.
It used to be that pooling was considered a bad thing, and there was lots of advice for yarn crafters on how to minimize pooling — still good advice if you don't want pools in your project. BUT! Nowadays, we have had more and more acceptance of pooling, and you may be familiar with Planned Pooling, in which you figure out how many stitches you need to work in plain knitting or crochet to make yarn pool in diagonals, making an argyle effect.
There is another pooling trend happening — Assigned Pooling! Unlike planned pooling, assigned pooling doesn't require much pre-planning. The pattern will give you rules to assign to different colors or textures as you work.
For example, a pattern might tell you to buy a yarn that is mostly one color, with a small area of accent color, and then knit the dark color stitches, but do a different stitch with the light color. An assigned pooling crochet pattern might have you work DC for most of the stitches, but make a bobble whenever you get to the accent color.
Assigned pooling also works with textured yarns. One of the most popular ones here at Yarnivore is the Bamboo Bloom Cowl. Cast on, then just knit when the yarn is thin and purl when it's thick!

The Tip Jar
Do you hate it when rough cuticles catch on your yarns? Some yarns can actually dry your hands out and make the problem worse! Here's an easy and inexpensive way to condition your cuticles and it'll keep your nails healthier, too:
Clean out an old nail polish bottle with acetone, then fill it with jojoba oil (the gold standard for nails and cuticles). Paint a little around your nails twice a day or whenever they feel dry!
