Little Did We Know...
How Many Fabulous Crafting Memories We Have!

As we celebrate the moms and other maternal figures in our lives this week, we thought it would be fun to share our appreciation for the ways our families have contributed to our crafting. 9 images of vintage crocheted, knitted, and tatted projects

Many of us learned to crochet, knit, sew and stitch from grandmothers, mothers and other family. Little did we know then that those lessons would lead us to a lifetime of stitching and that our memories would keep our loved ones near in heart and mind. Among our staff, we had fun sharing memories and pictures. Here are a few tidbits from our staff discussion:

Suzy still has her granny’s patterns, including the Knit O Graf (35¢!) for an adorable red child’s sweater that her granny made. Suzy used the same pattern to make a pink version for her daughters, adding the duck detail on the back. They look fabulous after all these years!

Cathy shared that her mom taught her and her two sisters to crochet when they were young, and she showed off her mom’s crocheted table cover. She also shared that her grandmother tatted and made bed linens for each grandchild. Imagine the sweet dreams you’d have with your grandmother’s handiwork to rest your head on!

Image of 2 women sitting outside knitting in 1923Caryn learned to crochet and knit from her grandmas. She even has pictures of her grandma and great aunt knitting (1923) and her grandma crocheting (circa 1965). She also still has two crocheted afghans, a scrap blanket from her grandma and a similar one that Caryn made in high school. Finally, she shared a photo of her oldest son's newborn clothes knit by her sister.

These stories are all reminders of how long our projects last and how grateful we are to our crafty mentors! Whether you have similar memories or are creating your own with your family and friends, we hope you find a minute to share!

Happy Mother’s Day y’all!

This tip is from Suzy's granny: You may find it easier to read your pattern as you go. Sometimes, reading ahead can be confusing or make the project sound too difficult. Working each row as it comes sounds like a lovely idea for a nice spring afternoon!
