It Might Feel Like Summer, But....
We're Already Falling in Love with Fall Yarns!

Have you ever wondered how and when we decide what to order for Yarnivore?  For new yarns, we make buying decisions when we meet with sales representatives (reps), usually twice a year. Each meeting takes several hours so reps can tell us about all the new yarns, including the yarns’ fiber content, country of origin, manufacturing details and pattern support.

In some cases, the yarn may not be a good fit for us or we might already have a competing brand in that category. In other cases, we’re smitten kittens with a new yarn because of its texture, colors and price. These are the easy decisions! If we love the yarn, then we get to pick colors. To make sure we have a wide variety of colors, we consider our existing yarns and colors and also think about color profiles (e.g., neutrals, brights, pastels).

Collage of Berroco Millstone Tweed colorsFall is the big season for new yarns, and we meet with reps from May to July about fall yarns so that we can start receiving them by August. This means that we’ve now finished our rep meetings and you’ll be seeing a LOT of new yarns and tools in the next month or two, including Berroco Bestie and Millstone Tweed (click on the link to go to the product pages and see all of the gorgeous colors!). Bestie is a super bulky (#6) Wool, Polyamide, Viscose blend in two-tone colorways. Millstone Tweed is worsted-to-bulky (#4-5) weight yarn made from Wool, Viscose and Polyamide. It has a velvety softness and comes in a variety of colors. These are just two of the new yarns, stay tuned as we announce more!

In addition to making room for new fall yarns, we’re also restocking cooler weather yarns, like Louisa Harding Amitola Brush, a blend of Mohair, Cotton, and Wool. Although listed as a sport (#2) weight, you’ll want to work it up on bigger needles or hook to give its halo plenty of room to bloom, so we think of it as a DK (#3).

If it seems like you can never find a tapestry needle or other small tool, we have an idea! Some tools can be attached via crochet chain or knitted i-cord, like shown in these pics. To do this, take some scrap yarn and either crochet or knit a cord. Attach your tool to one end of the cord and then connect the other end to an accessory bag or case. Tool for tightening interchangeable needles attached to a needle organizer via crocheted cord
